The Lark Geghard Choir offers rich opportunities for training and performance in the choral techniques common to Western and Armenian music. The Choir has presented numerous large and small-scale works drawn from the great western choral repertoire from Bach Passions to Beethoven’s glorious Symphony No. 9; from part songs to Verdi’s Requiem, garnering standing ovations at sold-out venues across the Southland. However it also holds dear its concert programs of seldom-heard Armenian classical music by composers Tigran Mansourian, Parsegh Ganatchian, David Halajian, Artur Avanesov, and, of course, the beloved Komitas.
Through its concerts the choir plays a major role in introducing, sometimes re-introducing, the rich Armenian musical tradition to contemporary Armenian-Americans, helping to embed that tradition in the modern culture of America.
